Paperheld terms of use
Last updated: 3 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Christopher Atkinson, trading as Paperheld, of c/o Sable International, 5th Floor, 18 St Swithin's Lane, London EC4N 8AD ("Paperheld", "I"). By using the Paperheld app you agree to them. The privacy policy at paperheld.app/privacy explains how your data is handled.
1. Who can use Paperheld
You must be 18 or over, and you need a Google account to sign in. Keep your Google account secure; anyone who can sign in to it can read your Paperheld writing.
2. What Paperheld is
Paperheld gives you writing challenges called Moments. It reads what you write by hand and writes back a reflection.
Reflections are written by AI. They can be wrong, incomplete or miss what you meant. They are for your own reflection only. They are not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. Paperheld is not therapy and not a crisis service.
If you are struggling, talk to someone. In the UK, Samaritans are there any time on 116 123. In an emergency, call 999.
3. Your writing
You own what you write. You give Paperheld permission to store, read and process your writing only to provide the service to you: reading your pages, writing your reflections, keeping your history and your notes. That permission ends when you delete the writing or your account.
Paperheld does not use your writing to train AI models, and does not sell it or use it for advertising.
4. Using Paperheld fairly
Don't use Paperheld to:
- break the law;
- try to get around its limits or security;
- overload the service;
- get it to produce content that is harmful to others.
If something a reflection says is wrong or unkind, use "Report this reflection" in the app.
5. The Paperheld pass
- Free reflection. Your first reflection is free.
- Prices. After that, a Paperheld pass costs £3.99 a month or £34.99 a year, including VAT. A pass includes up to 30 reflections a month, a fair-use limit that keeps the service affordable for everyone.
- Billing. Google Play sells and bills the pass. It renews automatically until you cancel.
- Cancelling. Cancel at any time in Google Play. You keep the pass until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds. Google Play's refund policy applies. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
- Price changes. If the price changes, you'll be told in advance through Google Play, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
6. Changes and availability
Paperheld is a small service, run by one person. I'll do my best to keep it running and your writing safe, but it may sometimes be unavailable.
If I make a change that affects you significantly, I'll tell you in the app first. If Paperheld ever closes, I'll give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your writing.
7. Ending your use
You can stop using Paperheld and delete your account at any time, in the app or at paperheld.app/delete-account. I may suspend an account that breaks section 4, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Otherwise, Paperheld is not liable for:
- losses that were not foreseeable;
- business losses;
- decisions you make based on a reflection.
9. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
