Delete your Paperheld account
Draft: the words in [brackets] are still to be filled in.
App: Paperheld · Developer: Christopher Atkinson, trading as Paperheld
You can delete your Paperheld account, and everything you have written in it, at any time. Here is how to ask.
This destroys the key to everything you've written. Within 7 days, no copy can be read, backups included. It doesn't cancel your pass; do that in Google Play.
In the app
Deleting is done in the app. On your phone, with Paperheld installed, the button below opens Settings, then Delete my account, where you confirm. The app asks you to sign in again first, so only you can do it.
Open Paperheld to delete your account
By email
Email hello@paperheld.app from the email address of the Google account you use with Paperheld, with the subject "Delete my account". You'll get a reply to confirm, and the account is deleted within 7 days of that reply. If you write from a different address, I'll ask you to delete it in the app instead, so nobody else can delete your account.
Your subscription
Deleting your account does not cancel a Paperheld pass. Google Play bills it, so cancel it in Google Play subscriptions as well, or it will keep renewing.
What is deleted, and when
- Straight away: your account, every entry you wrote, every reflection and follow-up, your answers, your reports and "Was this close?" answers, your settings and your pass status.
- The key goes first. Your writing is encrypted with a key that belongs to your account alone, and that key is destroyed before anything else, so your writing becomes unreadable at once.
- Backups: the last backup of that key expires within 7 days. After that no copy of your writing can be read, including in backups. Encrypted backups of the tables expire within 35 days, and could not be read after the key is gone.
- Your notes (what Paperheld remembers about you) are kept only on your phone. Uninstalling the app removes them.
What is kept
- Google Play's purchase records, which Google keeps under its own policy. Paperheld holds no copy.
- Technical logs for up to 30 days. They hold no writing, only random request IDs, error codes, timings and a scrambled form of your account ID.
- Security audit records of each use of your key, for [13 months]. They hold a scrambled form of your account ID and a time, and nothing you wrote.
